Policy
Last updated: May 6, 2026
DTCetc ("DTCetc," "we," "our," or "us") respects your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices you have. By using www.dtcetc.com (the "Site") you agree to the practices described below.
1. Information we collect
Information you provide
- Account data. When you sign up — directly or with Google — we receive your name, email address, and profile picture URL.
- Newsletter signup. If you join our newsletter, we collect your email address.
- Brand submissions. If you submit a brand for review, we collect anything you fill in: brand details, your name, email, role at the brand (if applicable), and any URLs or images you provide.
- Reviews and feedback. If you leave a review or contact us, we collect what you write plus the email or account associated with it.
- Communications. If you email us at hello@dtcetc.com, we keep a record of that correspondence.
Information collected automatically
- Log data. IP address, browser type and version, operating system, the pages you view, the dates and times of access, and referring URLs.
- Cookies and similar technologies. Small files stored on your device that keep you signed in, remember preferences, and help us measure how the Site is used. See "Cookies" below.
- Device data. Approximate location derived from IP, screen size, and similar technical metadata.
Information from third parties
- Google OAuth. If you sign in with Google, Google sends us your name, email, profile picture URL, and Google account ID. We do not receive your Google password.
- Analytics providers. Aggregated, non-identifying usage statistics about your visit.
2. How we use your information
- To create and maintain your account and authenticate you on return visits.
- To send you the DTCetc newsletter and transactional emails (e.g. account confirmations, brand-submission status updates). You can unsubscribe from the newsletter any time.
- To review, edit, and publish brand submissions.
- To operate, improve, and personalize the Site, including ranking brands and showing related content.
- To detect, investigate, and prevent fraud, spam, abuse, and security incidents.
- To comply with legal obligations and enforce our Terms of Service.
3. How we share information
We do not sell your personal information. We share it only with:
- Service providers who run the Site on our behalf — including hosting (Vercel), the content management backend (Railway, Payload), email delivery (Resend), authentication (Google), media storage (Cloudflare R2), and similar infrastructure. They are bound by contracts that limit their use of your data to providing the service.
- Other users, when you choose to make information public — e.g. a published review under your display name.
- Legal authorities, when required by law, subpoena, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of DTCetc, our users, or others.
- Successors, in connection with a merger, acquisition, financing, or sale of assets, in which case the acquirer will be bound by this Policy or notify you before any change.
4. Cookies
We use cookies and similar technologies for three purposes: essential (keeping you signed in and remembering session state); preference (remembering settings like dismissed banners); and analytics (understanding which pages are popular). You can clear or block cookies in your browser settings, but parts of the Site, including login, will not work without essential cookies.
5. Your rights and choices
Depending on where you live, you may have the following rights with respect to your personal information:
- Access — request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
- Correction — ask us to correct inaccurate or incomplete information.
- Deletion — ask us to delete your account and associated data. You can also self-serve account deletion from your profile page.
- Opt-out of marketing — unsubscribe from any marketing email by clicking the link in the email footer.
- Data portability — request a machine-readable copy of the data you provided.
- Lodge a complaint — with your local data-protection authority (EEA / UK residents).
To exercise any of these rights, email us at hello@dtcetc.com. We will respond within 30 days. We may need to verify your identity before fulfilling the request.
6. Data retention
We keep account data for as long as your account is active and for a reasonable period afterwards (up to 24 months) for legal, audit, and anti-fraud purposes. Brand submissions that are rejected are auto-deleted 7 days after rejection. Newsletter subscriber records are kept until you unsubscribe.
7. Security
We use industry-standard safeguards — including TLS for data in transit, hashed passwords (when applicable), and access controls on backend systems — to protect your information. No internet-based service can guarantee perfect security, so we cannot promise absolute protection.
8. International transfers
DTCetc is operated from the United States. Our service providers may process data in the US, EU, or other jurisdictions. By using the Site, you consent to your information being transferred to and processed in countries that may have different data-protection laws than yours.
9. Children's privacy
DTCetc is not directed at children under 13 (under 16 in the EEA / UK) and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.
10. California residents (CCPA / CPRA)
If you are a California resident, you have the rights described in Section 5 above plus the right to know what categories of personal information we collect and the right to opt out of the "sale" or "sharing" of your personal information. We do not sell or share your personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising. To exercise your California rights, email hello@dtcetc.com.
11. Changes to this Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top of the page reflects the most recent revision. Material changes will be announced on the Site or by email. Continued use of the Site after the change means you accept the updated Policy.
