DTCetc’s Take

About Imperfect Foods

Imperfect Foods is a subscription-based produce delivery company that was founded in 2015 by Ben Simon and Ben Chesler with the mission to eliminate food waste by bringing unconventional-looking produce straight to customers' doors. The San Francisco-based company partners with over 100 donation organizations and has created a grant program called Feeding the Change, saving 139 million pounds of imperfect food from going to waste. Imperfect Foods boxes include items that are still perfectly edible but that are surplus or discontinued, have a cosmetic imperfection, or are oversized or undersized. Customers have the option to customize their box with add-ons such as the Meat & Fish Pack or Dairy Pack, and can also take advantage of the box return program to recycle produce boxes. Prices for produce boxes range from $16-$27, and there is also a reduced-cost box program for low-income households. Imperfect Foods provides replacements or refunds for damaged items, making it an affordable and convenient way to get fresh and delicious produce.

Who Shops At Imperfect Foods

Customers who are eco-conscious and value sustainability would find Imperfect Foods useful. These customers are looking for ways to reduce their carbon footprint and minimize food waste. They are also interested in supporting companies that prioritize sustainability and social responsibility. Imperfect Foods aligns with these values by rescuing surplus or discontinued produce that would otherwise go to waste and partnering with donation organizations to feed those in need. The company's grant program, Feeding the Change, further demonstrates their commitment to reducing food waste. Additionally, customers can customize their box with add-ons such as the Meat & Fish Pack or Dairy Pack, allowing them to support sustainable and ethical farming practices. The reduced-cost box program for low-income households also shows Imperfect Foods' dedication to making fresh produce accessible to everyone. Overall, Imperfect Foods provides a convenient and affordable way for eco-conscious customers to get fresh and delicious produce while supporting a company that prioritizes sustainability and social responsibility.
